A lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication of Kogi State University, Anyigba, Dr Gabriel Ottah, has received a prestigious Arise Igala Magazine Leadership Award.
Dr Ottah received the award at the 2017 edition of Arise Igala Magazine Leadership Awards and Lecture, held at the Ladi Kwali Hall of Sheraton Hotel, Abuja.
Presenting the award, the Chief Executive of the Magazine, Okpanachi Onoja, said Dr Gabriel Ottah was unanimously adopted for the award by the Awards and Strategic Committee of the widely read magazine based on his outstanding score in credibility test and his passion for professionalism in his journalism and lecturing jobs.
Dr Ottah, the publisher noted, was one of the best public speakers and managers of public functions in the world, adding that his flair for phonetics and transcription has made him a academic with excellent voice and command of English.
Speaking, Dr Ottah thanked the Organisation for considering him for the award, adding that it would spur him to do more. While dedicating the award to God and his family, the media scholar and broadcaster called on the upcoming media practitioners to uphold the principles of objectivity and balance in news reporting.
Dr Ottah lamented that many media houses today have thrown professionalism into the dustbin due largely to lack of proper training in related area.
He called on educational institutions offering Mass Communication to double their efforts in bringing up a generation that would communicate professionally and adequately.
Among other awards, Head of Corporate Communications of Zenith Bank, Dr Victor Adoji, bagged the Man of the Year Award; Igala legendary singer, Joseph Abu, bagged the Magazine' s Hall of Fame, while the former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ahmadu Ali, bagged the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The occasion was attended by very many dignitaries including the manager of Maryam Wokili Blog.
